Preserve one’s memory of the outdoor experience expressed through a work of art. Captain Pete aims to create an atmosphere of all of the senses, not just the eye. His work conjures memories, struggles, the elements, smell, and temperature.

Sheppard typically experiences the moment with you - photographing the sport, and mentally breathing in the environment. In the case of a trophy fish portrait a photo and measurements are helpful. Sketches and color studies are recorded. Like one of Captain Pete’s guided fishing charters, it is the time spent with others within nature’s magic that memories should be celebrated and portrayed. Pete aims to capture the romance of one’s time afield or adrift.

Sporting portrait commissions begin at $2100 in a standard size of 16" x 20". Prices are based on complexity of scene and size of canvas. An estimate will be given upon initial consultation. After the photography is completed Peter does preliminary sketches. These are sent for approval and final determination as to size and cost of the painting. Current commissions are running 3 to 6 months from point of photography.
